The South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce (STCIC) is pleased to announce that the Safe TO Work (STOW) project, has been selected by a panel of international judges as a finalist in the World Chambers Competition for “Best Unconventional Project”.  STOW is being considered for this internationally recognized award along with projects from Chambers of Commerce in Norway, Sweden, Australia, Bolivia and Turkey.

Organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) World Chambers Federation (WCF), this global awards programme recognizes the most innovative projects being implemented by chambers of industry and commerce from around the worldVisit www.worldchambersfederation.com or http://www.iccwbo.org/icccijie/index.html

The Honorary Chairman of WCF and Chairman of this year’s World Chambers Competition Jury commented on the ICC website that ”The entries for the fourth World Chamber Competition were all of a very high standard, which made it a very difficult task for the judges to narrow them down ….“.

The STCIC is extremely proud and honoured to have the STOW project selected as a finalist from among such fierce competition.

This achievement comes almost one year after the STOW project won national accolades at the Trinidad & Tobago Occupational Safety and Health (TTOSH) Authority’s 2008 National Safety Awards in the Team category.

The continued recognition sends a powerful affirmation that STOW stands out as innovative, unconventional and world class and is a testimony to the hard work that the Team has put into implementing the project in Trinidad & Tobago.

The South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce (STCIC) will present the STOW project to the international judging panel at the 6th World Chambers Congress in Kuala Lumpur, to be held from 3 to 5 June this year. The winners will be announced at a special ceremony on the last day of the Congress.

STOW seeks help small local companies win more business in the energy sector by improving their health, safety and environmental (HSE) management systems and by extension their HSE performance.  The project is being implemented by the STCIC, in collaboration with the Association of Upstream Operators of Trinidad & Tobago (AUOTT) and the Pt. Lisas Energy Association (PLEA) and is funded by a generous grant from the Inter-American Development Bank.
